Hygge (noun) (Pronounced: Hoo-gah) …A quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being. The Danish concept encompasses both physical & emotional wellness, along with being around people you love in a cozy environment.
When my sister and I were kids, we would take turns bossing each other around (ok, I did most of the bossing, sorry Sus!) and we would insist often that the other make a comfy spot for one to lay in. This would consist of many pillows from all parts of the house, the softest blanket, a drink delivered, and tucking in to said blankets and pillows beneath the wood beamed ceiling of our cabin-like home.
To be the one who was in the comfy spot was bliss: cozy contentedness and being doted on by someone. In hindsight, we just enjoyed being comfy, and it was nice when someone else provided the cozy for us. If one of us wronged the other, the only way to stop her from telling our Mom was the pitch of: ‘oh come on! I’ll make you a comfy spot!!’ And all was forgotten, and Mom never was to find out…
In hindsight, it was the feeling of being tucked in and comfortable, cared for by another, that we each enjoyed: that we all enjoy. Who doesn’t love the words: spa-like master bath, cozy breakfast nook, refreshing pool. All of these represent places where comfort, calm and happiness is possible and likely.
And now that we’re learning about this fabulous Danish term: Hygge- it really strikes a chord with me in my daily search for homes with my buyers, and in my preparing of homes to sell for my sellers.
I would like to be the bringer of cozy to your life.
If you’re starting your search to buy a home, whether it’s your very first, your 10th, a vacation home, or a rental…I would like to marry your vision of what could be....with the home that is just right for you and makes you feel comfortable & happy. Let’s think….what is HOME about to you?
For many, it is a place that, at the beginning and end of each day, envelopes you visually and emotionally and says to you: stay a while.
Sunshine filtering through windows
A tree swing on the front lawn
A soaking tub with jets and lavender salt on a shelf
A tree with a nest in the back
A little patch of grass for your toddler to somersault on
Breath-catching views of Mount Diablo or the Bay Bridge with a bit of fog rolling by...
A cozy little kitchen banquette to sit at and enjoy waffles on Saturday while you listen to John Mayer
A fire pit with a built-in bench where you can roast marshmallows and play guitar with friends in the summer
A vaulted ceiling bedroom on the 2nd floor with a large window that opens and overlooks your backyard, where you can read.
HOME is what you picture, when you picture comfort. And Hygge is...COMFORT.
When working with a buyer, I gather as much information on what you are looking for and go above and beyond, seeking on & off market properties, to find you a match for the home that you see in your heart, with one that exists in the East Bay.
If you are considering selling your home, I am intimately familiar with all the exact, correct touches to add to your home so that beauty, comfort, warmth & calm flow from your home and allow each incoming buyer to leave enchanted, in love and ready to make an offer you cannot refuse.
My marketing plan for each seller is unique and specifically tailored to your home: from preparation, strategy, pricing to exquisite marketing. I work with my trusted stagers, cleaners, photographers and videographers to ensure your home shines like the star that it is, and that you obtain the highest return possible on one of your largest investments. I have been ranked as the #1 Realtor at Dudum Real Estate Group for 2019, 2020 and 2022 for production. I have been selling homes in the beautiful East Bay since 2002, and have been a top producer since my first year in the business.
90% of my business is by referral of past clients who are ecstatic with my level of service and forward my name to family & friends, which truly demonstrates the level of satisfaction my buyers and sellers have had with me. I pride myself on taking care of my clients from start to finish, working behind the scenes to relieve as much stress as possible from a transaction that is claimed to be one of the most stressful in life. I constantly hear: “Oh! I didn’t realize that you did THAT” as the response to the level of extra that I bring to both buyers & sellers.
Please also read about what some of my buyers & sellers say about me on Yelp!
In my personal life, I have been to married Ed Cox, my college boyfriend, since 2003. I am a Mother to 4 children: 17, 15, 13 and 11. (Two girls & two boys), and have extensive family living in the East Bay as well. My kids are the intense sunshine of my life, and I love doing crafts with them, jumping in on their TikToks, hiking the gorgeous open space we are so fortunate to have around these parts, camping and bike riding with my crew when time allows. My husband and I are both SMC alums (Go Gaels!) and we both sincerely enjoy the down to earth people and lifestyle that surrounds us here in the East Bay. We are big party people and enjoy hosting our friends and kids’ friends and relishing the 9 months of the year wonderful California sunshine.
In my next life, I am a librarian; I am obsessed with books and have way too many that I have yet to read, and lose way too much sleep over the ones I do get to…or…
…a preschool teacher or…
…or an OB Nurse…as I ADORE, like truly can’t get enough of… babies & kids.
Give me a call (or send me a text) if you’d like to buy or sell a home.
I’d love to talk to you to help you out.
